Our April LosAngeles/CreativeMornings is going to take place at the Lomography Gallery / Store in West Hollywood. Bobby Solomon’s The Fox Is Black is going to be sponsoring the event and so he and I went to check out the space. It was nice to be in there before they were open to check out the amazing selection of cameras and products. I especially loved the Jack White Holga. The branding, the colors and the typography on the packaging were so slick. The event is taking place on April 8th. If you’re in LA – come by.

Lately, I’ve been getting back into shooting film which I haven’t done in years. John Moshay turned got me excited about it when he showed me some of his shots one time I was out in LA and convinced me to buy a Lomo Diana. Since then, I’ve dusted off my old Nikon and I also purchased this little Poketo Slim Angel Wide Angle Camera. It’s really nice to carry around as it fits in your jacket pocket and the 35mm film is a little more consistent than the 120. I love the vignetting around the edges and the clarity in some of these shops especially the Pittsburgh Paints sign and then 659 on this stoop in Park Slope. As my days in NYC are numbered I am trying to take as many shots as possible. These little film cameras are making photography feel a little more exciting for me. There is that anticipation again about what a shot is going to look like which never really happens anymore with digital.

A few months ago I found this red Lomolito sitting in a cabinet in my studio. It still had about a dozen shots left on it so I took with me to the farmer’s market at Grand Army Plaza and took some shots there as well as in Prospect Park. Some of the ones turned out pretty well. I find with these disposal lomo cameras you get a lot more grain on the photos which I like, but the color are less unpredictable and saturated as your standard Lomo. Regardless, I think you get four disposals for about $12. If you put the little colored lens over the flash it is supposed to put a filter on the images. This worked best with the green one while the yellow filter made everyone look really sick.
