I am really looking forward to January’s edition of LosAngeles/CreativeMornings with National Forest. I’ve been an admirer of their work for years now and I have a few pieces of Steven Harrington’s work in my “collection.” I stopped by their studio the other day to take some pics and chat with them up the upcoming event. They really couldn’t have been nicer guys and anyone who is coming to see them speak on the 20th is in for a treat. RSVPs open up on 1/16 at 11am.

Most of the work I’ve been doing at Media Temple will be under wraps until early March, however, this little logo for our SXSWi Party is now out there. Typographically, it makes me happy. Did I mention I love my job?

Late to the game on this one (shocker). Dirty Beaches – Badlands has been a daily listen of mine for the last couple of months. There’s a haunting Ian Curtis-like vocal throughout. I am not sure if this is an official video, but it’s damn good.

I’ve been re-watching the entire series of Peep Show. It is, without doubt, the funniest show in the history of anything and everything. Super Hans desperately needs a spin-off.

If you’re a music lover and you’re using the TuneIn Radio App you’re doing yourself a major injustice. Justin who runs the Aquarium Drunkard blog turned me on to this amazing app a few months ago. I can’t stop using it! Nowadays, it’s so easy to get any song by just about any artist on a variety of music overload services. I find it way more enjoyable to listen to a good DJ doing their thing. There’s the element of surprise, the curation, the human voice with the back-story of what you’ve heard and the overall discovery that used to be the thing I love about music. The way it used to be. Walking into a record store and hearing something playing you’d never heard before. Or, sifting through the staff pics to uncover that gem. I am old. What can I say?

TuneIn allows you to listen to 1000s of radio stations all over the world. It reminds me of sitting next to a shortwave with my dad listening to the BBC. You just select a region, find a country, find a city and see what’s on. Some of my favorites are: WWNO3 (Jazz from New Orleans), Folk Radio UK Frukie (beautiful new and old folk from the UK) and Seneweb Radio playing loads of new and old Afrobeat out of Senegal. The BEST thing about TuneIn is you can record programs right on the iPad. Aside from Instagram, it’s probably the App I use the most. Check it out.

Last Thursday night we had our second Creative Mornings at night. This time our speaker was the legendary Roger Gastman. Gastman has been at the forefront of street art and graffiti for years and years. He founded the magazines While Your Were Sleeping and Swindle, he was one of the produces and creative consultant for Exit Through The Gift Shop, he co-curated the Art in the Street show at MOCA and he recently wrote The History of American Graffiti. His talk was a short history of how he got where he is today, including bank-rolling a European trip, and most of his early business success, by selling graffiti caps. We’ll be posting a video of his talk on the LACM Vimeo page in the next couple of weeks.

I started my new job this week. I am working as Creative Director at Media Temple in Culver City. So far, so great. I am working with an insanely talented and smart team of people and we’re working on some big changes. I’ve been a devoted (mt) customer for years and, after being inside the walls there, I am even more impressed with the company. They’ve lived up to the high expectations I had.
